Profile Center Medical Engineering (FAU MT)
The scientific focus of medical engineering is of the greatest societal relevance in light of demographic development and is incorporated into an excellent research environment at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). The goals are to prolong life expectancy, to improve the quality of life, and to optimize cost structures in the healthcare sector. Scientists at FAU have contributed fundamentally to topics in medical imaging, biomaterials, wearable sensors, robotics, and therapeutic systems.
The field of medical engineering is one of the key research priorities at FAU – more than 150 professors and lecturers are active within this field at the university and were integral in the founding of the Profile Center Medical Engineering (FAU MT) in January 2023. All activities in this research area are combined by FAU MT to further develop the network and expertise within and beyond the university and to ensure a more transparent public image of this highly dynamic field at FAU.
The core responsibilities of FAU MT include networking its numerous members to stakeholders in medical engineering, supporting interdisciplinary research projects, offering educational programs in Medical Device Regulation and in partnership with EIT Health, and providing support for securing external grant funding.
